Q&A With Vince De Jesus

Q&A With Vince De Jesus

Vince De Jesus

Film composer, actor, musical director, writer, and singer are just a few of Vincent De Jesus’ job descriptions. And now, he has officially added TV and radio commercials to his repertoire.

This month, we throw 5 questions at the newest member of Team Hit.

?1. You mentioned this is your first day job! How has it been going so far?

I have nothing but complete admiration and respect for Hit. I am in awe. People are always on their toes, their wits as sharp as a samurai sword, aesthetics beyond question. No wonder Hit is a big hit. I’m still trying to memorize all the names and faces though. Ang daming bagong mukha para sa akin!

2. You’ve been working on a bunch of projects already. Of those that aired recently, which are your favorites and why?

I’ve only been in heat … sorry, I mean in Hit … for three months but I’ve done quite a number of bids and studies. Most of my approved jingles’ storyboards are still being shot, some scores/jingles awaiting approval. But I definitely have my favorites. Kung ano man yun, for now… secret muna.

3. You’ve scored a lot of films and plays in the past, and now ads. How different is the process in scoring films/plays vs. ads?

The process is pretty much the same, really. Although films and tv shows take a longer time to score because of the length of the material. In advertising, projects are usually in seconds! Not in minutes or hours.

4. I hear Babae Sa Septic Tank is the country’s official entry to the Oscars Foreign Language Film Category. What is it like being a vital part of such a huge project?

I’m happy and proud to be part of Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank. I composed the songs and musical score of the film. It was such a fun movie to do. Marlon Rivera and Chris Martinez are dear friends. So is Eugene Domingo. We’re very excited about it being an Oscar entry. Back in 2004, CRYING LADIES from Unitel Pictures was also chosen as our Oscar entry, I also scored that film. When people notice your work and say good things about it, it tells you you must be doing something right. It’s a good feeling.

5. If it does get in the final nominees list, who will you be wearing to the Oscars?

I was planning on wearing a Barney suit but unfortunately I won’t be able to attend. I have revisions to do for a client. :-P
